View Full Version : How you handle medical conditions...

I was at a public event a while back and flogging someone new. He had been flogged before (or so he claimed). I went over all of the safety procedures, safe words, what he should expect, etc. I asked about intensity and pain thresholds.

I started very slow with a very soft flogger. I noticed that he turned red almost instantly. This worried me. I asked how he felt, checked him. All the responses were positive and good. I slowly worked up, and he quickly started marking. I'd never *ever* seen someone mark up that fast, on a light (half inch elk) flogger.

I stopped the scene and just told him I was sorry but I was not comfortable continuing, that he was marking too easily and I was afraid of actually hurting him.

At this point the subject decided to mention that it was probably just the blood thinners he was on :eek::eek:

He was a young guy, I didn't even think about blood thinners. It scared the crap out of me. I really believe I could have accidentally killed the guy.

What would you have done? How do you find out about it up front? I know that at some point, people have a responsibility to communicate their conditions... but the risk of what happened still bothers me.

Advice?

Hey Victoria,
Welcome to the forum! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Every time I play with someone even if I have played with them previously I ask them "Do you have any medical conditions? Are you taking any medications? Have any metal in the body? Are you taking any herbs? Have you eaten today, what time? Ive noticed that all people mark differently depending on a number of variables! Just ask your play partners about any medical history or medications they may be taking, they shouldnt have a problem sharing this information!

Herbs, I didn't even think about herbs, and last time eaten. I can see that would have a big effect. I kind of learned my lesson on the medical one the hard way :(. This was exactly what I was looking for, thank you! I knew that there must be other questions out there that I should be asking that I was missing, and I didn't want to learn them all through experience...

GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL THE BDSM FORUM MEMBERS, FAMILY......MASTERS, MISTRESSES, subs, slaves AND IF i HAVE MISSED ANYONE, i BEG YOUR FORGIVENESS. my NAME IS slave angel (a.k.a. Dana) A sub/slave NEW ON THE SITE....AND VERY EXCITED TO HAVE FOUND 1763.....i AM ALSO A REGISTERED NURSE AND JUST WANT TO QUICKLY REPLY ON THE COMMENT AND EXPERIENCE MADE BY VICTORIA FOXX, IF i MAY. A PERSON WHO IS ON BLOOD THINNERS (COUMADIN-WARFARIN, HEPARIN, LOVENOX,E TC) IS USUALLY ALWAYS ON THEM FOR 'CARDIAC REASONS' (BIG RED FLAG-I WOULDNT CONSENT TO PLAYING WITH THEM IN BONDAGE OR FLOGGING, WHIPPING OF ANY KIND TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND OF COURSE YOUR PLAY PARTNER!) THEY ARE ON BLOOD THINNERS BECAUSE THEY'VE EITHER HAD A DVT (DEEP OR SUPERFICIAL BLOOD CLOT-WHICH UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE TRAUMA!!!! CAN TRAVEL TO THE HEART OR LUNGS AND KILL THEM INSTANTLY...CHECK SOME SOURCES) OR THEY ALREADY HAVE A HISTORY OF ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (HEART FLUTTERS INSTEAD OF BEATING CORRECTLY) OR THEY MAY HAVE JUST HAD A TOTAL KNEE OR TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT...(NOT AS LIKELY IF THEY ARE LETTING YOU TIE THEM UP AND WHIP THEM).....SO WORD OF CAUTION! A PERSON ON BLOOD THINNERS MAY BLEED INTERNALLY (NOT JUST APPEAR 'MORE MARKED' WHEN BEATEN, FLOGGED, ETC. IT WOULD BE ADVISABLE TO HAVE THEM SIGN A DISCLAIMER STATING THEIR MEDICAL HISTORY, MEDICATIONS THEY ARE ON AND THAT THEY GIVE CONSENT TO BE FLOGGED ETC WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MEDICAL EMERGENCIES THAT MAY OCCUR DUE TO THE TREATMENT......OR BETTER YET...AS I STATED BEFORE....JUST DONT DO IT AT ALL......
