Whats in your toy bag? What was the first BDSM type item you purchased and where did you purchase this? Do you still have and use this item? Have you learned signify information on how to pick the right item for you ( such as a good flogger from a crappy flogger). My first items were a whertenburg(?) wheel and a suede flogger, I currently have and use both. However I do realize now that my first flogger was actually too long for me and my arm length!
Come on guys share and lets gain some insightful experience on play time, where to begin and how to buy the right things for our toy bags!

My first toy was a riding crop, many years ago and it broke a long time ago.

I would suggest only buying toys that you can touch/hold/feel/use in person before buying, instead of buying online.

hmmm... i'm one that prefers to 'peek' in a Tops toybag, and select things from there - just something about Them being more comfortable and used to Their own things... sooo, in that case, i suppose my first 'toys' were clothespins and a wooden ruler.... chuckles, not very interesting, but, hey, very useful :)

and, i agree, OB.. much better to hold items in Your hand, when buying...

When we first got together, mischief and I were learning together. She bought me my first flogger for her birthday and a friend recommended we go to Achella and pick one out, so we made an appointment and went to her house and tried a few out before deciding on a nice suede model with 60 falls IIRC. We enjoyed the going and shopping in the privacy of her home business as much as anything. Since I have added many toys, but that's still one of our favorites.

My first toy was a pair of handcuffs. My partner and I started using make-shift blindfolds shortly thereafter.

I agree with the idea of trying toys out before you buy, whenever possible. Some things I will buy online, but some things (e.g. impact toys) just have to "feel right."

I don't really have a bad, per say, but I do have a few things that my ex and I used to play with in bondage. I still have the police-issue handcuffs and key that I received from a family friend years ago, along with several rope/cords from my time in the military, tho.

Thanks for the toy bag replies everyone, it is interesting how we all progress in our toys as we progress in our play and our play taste! In the beginning I wasnt so much into foot worship and now...WHOOO HOOOO RUB ME LIL FEETS!!! When I think back over my journey in this lifestyle I have become much more open to a variety of play whether Im personally into it or not! I find the more I learn on things the more those things start to appeal to me! I think it is the more I learn on what the bottom is getting from it the more I really like it as I now know how to get into that persons head and space! Anyone else like this? Are there things in the beginning of your journey that didnt appeal to you that you enjoy now?

of course, the to-do list is full of 'repeatable' things already :)

We have a kneeler that was given to us by a friend. He also gave us two homemade floggers. I bought a riding crop years ago,but i would say our favorite thigns have been homemade. We love candles, hairbrushes, and things like that. We just received the kneeler so we still have yet to use it. But it should be fun.

It seems common that people begin playing and experimenting with items found around the house, then progress to a few home made items and then realize that these things can be found at fetish/bdsm toy stores!! This does seem to be a common thread Ive seen many times!! Before you know it people are carrying around big toy bags filled with goodies acquired over their years of conventions, dungeons and toy store visits!( or 1763 visits to Scream the store @ 1763)
